Dutch eye hospital Zonnestraal, currently owned by Dr. Lopes Cardozo and two business associates, has recently found an investor which should assure a healthy cashflow and enough money to invest in further growth of the current seven private clinics. Investor NPM Capital earlier announced to focus on healthcare and from that point of view this acquisition is a very logical one. Zonnestraal executes 5.500 cataract surgeries a year, has a turnover of about 25 million euro and 170 employees including 20 eye doctors. It is unknown whether the company makes profit nor what NPM Capital will invest to acquire a majority stake. Zonnestraal expects to increase sales by opening more private clinics and by cooperating with existing general hospitals. The role of the optometrist is less unclear. Most of them seem to be busy with less lucrative parts of the business like the check up of diabetes.
