Once the optical store of Hans Winkel at Amsterdam was one of the most trendsetting opticians in the Netherlands. The store at the Rokin in the center of the city presented eyewear as fashion and design accessories in a time in which most opticians considered it vision aids. Bankers and business men went to Hans Winkel. The more artistic people preferred Oogappel. Times have changed. Luckily enough Oogappel is still there and other young opticians opened trendy stores in other parts of the city. Hans Winkel could not follow and has been declared bankrupt on July 3rd. Such a pity we lost this optical monument.
