Besides television shows, all fashion magazines used eyewear in their advertorials. Elsevier published an 8 pages eyewear lexicon, inspired by the designer movies editor John de Greef had seen at the Fete de la Vue 2010. Of course both Grazia and Glamour published their Sunglasses Specials and in Autumn we had a great special at Nouveau and Margriet magazines. Remarkable to see how many artists choose to wear Carrera in their videoclips making the brand the absolute number 1 in this scene. New is the ECO trend introduced by Not Just Vision at its successful Inspiration Days. Finally ECO has reached the optical industry after becoming an important trend in automotive, food and fashion. Opticians can join now as well with the ECO collection by MODO. The vintage trend remained popular, rounder retro shapes gain ground and we see much more color in both frames and lenses with blue as the trendsetting one. Of course people made the news as well. Marcel de Haas left his own Click Company to join Polaroid which afterwards was sold to Safilo. Essilor reorganized with as result Ron de Bruijn becoming responsible for the Northern Europe area and Alex Versteeg as commercial director for the Benelux. The Dutch did well anyway with Safilo (read HAL) appointing the Dutchman Robert Polet as new CEO for the company that was only recently directed by the Italian Tabacchi family. Last but certainly not least, our own Matthe Marquet of Marchon became responsible for Scandinavia as well. So far so good. The year 2011 can be closed after a perfect first half and a moderate second one. Still enough to do and to look forward to. The year 2012 will be a challenging one once again and will show winners and losers as especially now the best will survive and win. The branch offers more as enough opportunities! For now a Happy New Year. Be careful with the fireworks and see you soon in 2012!
