Last year Luxottica could present record figures over the first quarter of the year but in the first quarter of this year the growth of the optical giant slowed down. The company recorded an increase in sales of 4,2%. Especially Europe still performs less good with, compared to the same period last year, flat sales as a result. Sales in Eastern Europe compensated the decreases in Southern Europe. Some countries in Continental Europe did better as others. Net income increased slightly but debts did as well. Remarkable in the press release was the increased attention for prescription frames. Where the focus in the last years seemed to be on sunglasses, Luxottica now announces to increase efforts to supports sales of the prescription collections. Forecasts for the whole year remain positive although the growth is expected to be less spectacular as in the last years.
