At the last Amsterdam International Fashion Week young Dutch designer Iris van Herpen showed one piece which was entirely produced by 3D printing. The printing of the complex design had taken days and could be considered a real scoop in the fashion world. At the SILMO in Paris Mykita showed us what this new technique could mean to the production of eyewear designs. The designers showed styles developed in collaboration with Romain Kremer, Bernard Wilhelm and Rad Hourani. As the printing of rather simple designs as the front or a temple of a pair of glasses takes far less time than the printing of the complicated work of Iris van Herpen, these eyewear will really be available soon. Mykita is busy patenting the way they treat the surface of the raw material in order to deliver a unique and special product.
